Nancy Sutcliffe

Engraved and sandblasted glass

Nancy trained as a medical illustrator and was employed for several years in publishing and at a large London teaching hospital. A move to rural Herefordshire meant a change of direction, and she began to work with glass.
Nancy now uses a variety of techniques to achieve the delicate designs which have become her trademark. She uses a sand blaster for large opaque areas, a diamond point drill for carving and detail, and occasionally ceramic paint for high contrastMore recently she has begun to work on a larger scale using the drill as a drawing tool, either cutting deeply into the glass, or sketching with the lightest touch.
The natural world has been a huge influence on Nancy’s work, providing much of her subject matter. She has begun to try and capture the movement of figures in her new work and is developing her own style in this direction
Nancy exhibits widely, with the guild, and at the Hay Makers Gallery in Hay on Wye.
