Penny Williams

Animal-inspired jewellery and metalwork.

Penny has been designing and making jewellery and metalwork since leaving her degree course at Birmingham School of Jewellery and Silversmithing. Over the last 12 years she has operated from her workshop in the historic Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. It’s the ideal place to work, with all the materials, tools and expertise available on the doorstep.

Penny has participated in exhibitions across the UK and abroad. She also supplies galleries and shops throughout the country and as far afield as Germany, America and Japan.

The most recent ranges of jewellery have been inspired by a love of animals. Taking photographs and drawing them enables an understanding of their shape and form and captures the essence of their character. An element of humour is very important!

Critters

Many of the designs are used to produce brooches. There are three main themes; Cats, Dogs and Chickens. They are available in brass with a bronze oxide finish and also in silver with bright gold plating. The two colour effect helps to enhance the surface patterns. Penny also produces a wide range of earrings, including the ‘Top Cats’ and ‘Other Animals’, which are made in either brass or silver.

Angelcat

Penny also makes a range of clocks using similar motifs. They are made from a mixture of copper and brass which is acid etched to create pattern and texture. This is then either oxidized or heat treated. The heat treated surface produces a deep red and yellow textured finish, whilst oxidising enhances the pattern.
